As I mentioned in another thread, I recently found a gym nearby that was more conducive to powerlifting than my current gym.
It's a small, hardcore kind of place about two towns over from where I live. They let me try the place and go through a workout to see how I liked it. On this day, the training group was doing speed squats.
I started working with the group, but at one point one of the trainers noticed I had trouble with the form. As it turns out, I never really learned how to do a squat correctly. As much as I may have read about the form and whatnot, nobody had ever really shown me the right way to squat until just a few days ago. No wonder I've had so much knee pain recently.
The trainer took me right back to square one, having me practice my form with a broomstick and a bench to learn how deep I have to go.
Then we worked on core strength and flexibility. Seems there's some tightness in my hip and groin area that makes it difficult for me to squat deep enough, so I need to work on that.
Thank God I found that place and that trainer. My only regret is not finding them earlier.
