Yesterday I busted out and awesome 2400 cals burnt. Combination of 1.5 mile walk, 150 crunches and daily living. Concentrating on my benching today I hit a personal best at 140. I felt really good about yesterday as I fell asleep w/o the help of any sleep aids, which is new since my working out lifestyle has begun. But today.....
January 14, the nausea is still there. Trying to not make it better with big bowl of pasta. Always worked before. Its hard to get the protein in when I am feeling so crappy. [/list]

Hey, nice work, Powerchick! 140 pounds is a very impressive bench!
Instead of waiting until Tuesday morning, I'm going to consolidate your training logs now. I'm certain you're going to generate lots of interest and replies, and now will probably be less complicated than later!
Today, Friday. Didn't have a great cardio start, then decided on a big plate of steamed shrimp for lunch and much to my dismay could not eat it all because this overwhelming sense of nausea ended up putting me in bed for most of the afternoon. Being that I have experienced morning sickness on occasion this fear of feeling this way for months overcame me and worse, being in "the family way" and having to stop lifting! I am still not over the icky wave just yet, but I am more grieved in knowing that my cardio will suffer today. I will rest up and hit the gym early in the AM.
I hope you feel better tomorrow morning, powerchick!
Well, sometimes these things can't be helped, so don't worry about it.
P.S. Check your private msgs.

This week there is no workout because of the upcoming competition. I am trying to get my back totally recovered also. I think I will be fine. So until the meet is over the only training is cardio and proper eating. See you all on the flip side of the competition. I'd love to know who all is going to be there???

I wish I could go! I'll be there in spirit though!
I do know that Lorrie Gunde is planning to be there as well as Paperboy.

I am still contemplating going, but it will depend on what time I get home Friday evening and how early I can get up Saturday, since I'll have to do it as a day trip. We'll see.

Now see mine goal is size and weight, size 8 and 130 lbs. But if the muscle mass keeps me from hitting the weight portion but I am still under the double digits in clothes Woo Hoo for me!
Yes, woo hoo for you, powerchick!

As some of you already know, I am one of the herd. I must say that Richmond was quite an exhausting yet exhilarating time. I don't think Marty could of asked for a better group of teammates. We really are and were there for each other, so much so that I went down Thursday night driving three plus hours with two babies in order to be there for Ron and Nick's lifts on Friday. Jen (whistler) came down starting at 5am w/ Marty in tow on Friday. Picking up Marty that early in the morning not knowing which Marty was going to be along for the ride was probably traumatizing within itself. (you know I love you Marty!!) I know this is the training log so I am not sure if you guys want the entire weekend story here or elsewhere on the site. Let me know and I will continue.....

Hey Connie, write about the meet in the "everything else" section!

Yes, please do write about the weekend . . . I'd love hearing about it from a feline perspective! Oh, and what do you mean by, ". . . which Marty was going to be along for the ride . . ."?

Welcome back Connie,
I also wonder sometimes about workouts where I don't feel anything the next day.. but I chart it all out.. .as long as I've hit the reps and sets I was supposed to I feel okay. Just makes me more confident that I'll hit the next week's numbers.
Take care.

I am so bummed to the point of almost wanting to throw in the towel.
I was unable to deadlift 135 sumo or conventional, when I have a PR of 190.
I felt absolutely weak beyond belief. This is not how I work!
I am having no problems in the upperbody work-outs by the way.
BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT!

Yeah, Connie. Days like that suck raw eggs like weasels. Everybody who keeps on lifting has a few. But I'm glad to see the word "almost" in your post: you won't throw in the towel. And before you know it, you'll breeze on past 200 pounds. Unless you're getting sick--and I hope you're not--things should go better next time you deadlift.

Thanks so much. I am really having a super hard time with this. I mean Jenny has always blown me out of the water w/ the deadlift but to watch my other lifting partners (and we know who they are!) out lift me really is devastating. I don't think I am getting sick, but everyone in my family is right now!! Other female activities were abound during this workout, but STILL! Plus I am nervous about injurying my back again. But thanks for the support. No I can't quit, and hear Marty's mouth forever!
I'm with Bobcat. That sort of thing happens to everybody once in a while. When I have one of those, I usually look through my training logs for the previous few days and look for something weird. Did I tweak a muscle in an earlier workout? Have I been undereating? Did I get a good night's sleep before the workout? Have I been pushing myself a bit too hard lately ("too hard" meaning "overtraining to the point where my performance starts going downhill"). Have I been going super-low-carb lately? For me, it's usually one of those things.

The guys are right; it does happen to everyone, and there can be myriad causes. Don't let it throw you.

I think one of the best things I've learned from reading training logs and posting here is that EVERYONE experiences the blahs, the slumps, and the inexplicable misses. While I wouldn't want to be seen as endorsing less than optimal performance, once in a while, we have to consider simply showing up as a victory.
Keep on keepin' on. You're bound to have more great days than blah days!

I have noticed that I often have feelings of burn out right before I make a breakthrough, and I have just experienced this. If you looked at my log you would see several sub-par efforts and a regular statement of discouragement, but last week something broke loose and I am feeling great every workout. This game is as much, if not more, mental as it is physical. If you let the discouragement get you, your done, but if you push through you will over come.

ADAU meet Bench only
Finished w/ 137.8lbs. Missed 143 for the record though. Marty says I would have had it if I wouldn't have listened to someone tell me to move my press down. I was lifting high for some reason. But I barely made 130 twice before the meet so I am happy.
Next we are working on why I can do
5 sets of 8 @ 110lbs and not easily do 130!
I will break the ADAU record of 140 in August.
Oh yea, did place first. Thank you Marty!
Everybody's different with the reps vs. singles thing. I'm the other way. I just hit a single with 250 in the bench about a week ago. Today I loaded up 225 and couldn't get a double with it. So the difference between my best triple and my best single is probably around 50 pounds. Go figure.

I don't do as well with reps as I do with singles either, but that's probably because I've been around over half a century!
Connie, ya did great! When you tell us the record will fall in August, I don't have any trouble believing you. So take a week's rest, then train like a demon.

Thanks guys! I will rest this week even though I hate to! I want to keep going and it always seems like a set back resting. But I have to start from fresh on the deadlift and squat too. I haven't been training on that since January so I am back to basics on that since I was done w/ that due to a back injury. So I will be off and running but again from step one! I'll keep you posted!

You did wonderfully Connie! I am sooooo jealous of that 137.8! You've got me beat! I'm actually envious of that 143 miss too. You'll get it next time! What weight division are you lifting in in June? Maybe I'll try to give you some competition....just to keep you from slacking off!

Congrats Connie on your recent PR!
Hope those "deadlift blues" have blown away from your recent bench success!
My training partner gets bummed real easy and I always draw his attention to my log book that I keep in my gym bag where I missed a workout weight that a month prior I was blowing away.
It happens - but like everybody said, there is always a combination of factors and variables that interface with our workouts. Take note of those times and change what variables you can and those you can't just being aware helps through those rough patches.
Now off with you to the gym and bust those plateaus!

Bench press 95x5 (competition grip), 115x5 , (85x12 narrow grip)
Seated Overhead Barbell Press 45x15
Barbell Press Behind the Neck 45x12
Yes, my arms are now the consistency of warm rubber... COOL.
I am so glad to be back to the weights. Even with my annual sinus annoyances (these barometric pressure shifts just kill my head - yesterday was a cool spring day, last we had ice / hail).
(thanks whistler!)
