What do you use for hair removal? I shaved when I was little, then I waxed. I really think waxing worked the best for me and I did that for a long time.

I tried Veet and Nair other creams, and while I do think they last longer than just shaving, the smell was aweful.

I have never thought much about permanant hair removal, but considering what I spend for waxing, that might be a better option.

What seems to work best for you?

OK . . . by the time I got here, there were 20 views of this post . . . and no replies. HMMM . . . looks like you've piqued the interest of some non-female members, OCM!! In my imagination they're tip-toeing away. This discussion reminds me of that hilarious scene from What Women Want.

I prefer waxing too . . .

I have a friend who did the permanent thing and she said it was painful and expensive.

Tip-toeing? :o The question was directed at females! But if any of you actually want a male answer, consider the following. A number of male deadlifters have been known to shave the fronts of their legs above the knee and apply baby powder. This combination reduces friction. (You might see duct tape on the shins of some of these guys, too. I hope they shave their shins before applying the duct tape!) If I were looking to improve a 495 deadlift instead of a 415, I might try shaving, too.

Some deadlifters wear soccer shinguards to protect their shins, as well.

Some of the specialty deadlift bars are very sharply knurled to enhance grip, also a bit smaller in diameter and "whippier"

Oh, on topic. I heard a commercial on my local radio station a few days ago for a laser hair removal company. They mentioned that they have a price list on their website. On a whim I checked it out (I probably would never have anything done, particularly at these prices, but if I did it would be shoulders and back only).

Here's the link:

Can't dispute that fact, Bobcat . . . the tiptoeing was more in reference to accounts I've heard of men trying waxing. Some guys can be stoic about it, and some . . . well . . . you get the idea.

Since the question IS directed toward women, the number of replies is not a surprise. I just found it amusing that a post titled "Question for the Ladies" would get so many views.

OCM likes stirring things up -- she started the Victoria's Secret thread -- and that's another one that has received way more views than replies!!

Mach 3 Turbo razor and Satin Care shaving cream. Best razor ever.

Only waxing I ever have done is eyebrows.

Sorry for stirring things up. And I DEEPLY apologize for leaving the guys out.

Please feel free to chime in, guys or gals, if you wax or shave any body part.

Ok, I have a reservation for Legs and Brazillian wax tomorrow. Has anyone, male or female, tried this? the Brazillian, not just legs.

I think waxing lasts longer, I defiantely do my eyebrows too Mrs I. I think tweezing hurts.

When I get within striking distance of a 500 lb. deadlift, I'll try it!

CinnamonGirl: Waxing? Not for a deadlift. Reminds me of the following:

Pity all
The Mighty Caesars
They pulled each whisker out
With Tweezers
Burma-Shave

And as for that laser place in Leesburg that Jeff mentioned: five hundred dollars for an extra five pounds in the deadlift?!

Jeff that laser place is about $2400, if you can get all the hair in 4 sessions! That is a lot of money to me.

Although, I just spent a lot on the reduction, so I think right now everything costs a lot. Once I get all the other surgeries done, I may serioulsy consider laser hair removal.

If you figure the amount I spend on waxing, even if it is every two to three months, it still adds up.

Why apologize for stirring things up -- I think some of us live for posts like this.

Since I haven't worn a bathing suit for decades, I personally don't have experience with the Brazilian -- yet. I just bought my first bikini in hopes/plans for my trip to Cabo in December. To date, my experience with waxing is limited to legs. We can compare notes in December . . .

I will let you guys know tomorrow night how painful it is. LOL! I dont own a bathing suit, but I do own lingerie, and I think I would feel better wearing it with all the hair removed.

Plus, my shorts tend to be shorter on me then others. Probably due to the height, so I need to wax more than just my legs.

I am sure your bikini will be a huge hit! :D

OCM, I think it's a lot of money to anyone, LOL.

I posted the link because I thought it was interesting that they promoted the fact that their price list was online in their radio commercial. I suppose most of these places are pretty cagey about publicizing their pricing. I suppose, like anything, if competition increases the prices will come down. Hasn't that happened in the laser eye surgery market?

Bobcat, c'mon $500 is only the cost of meet entries for 9 meets. I bet your hotel and buffet bill is higher than that

Meet entry for Ohio Regional: $45.00

Night for two at the Ramada in Springfield, Ohio: $80.00

Participation in this thread: Priceless! (So don't apologize, OCM.)

If the buffet is all you can eat, 'tis the proprietor who will take the hit. But that steak dinner in Springfield was about $56 for the two of us, with tip. (Vondah had two glasses of merlot; I stuck to iced tea.)

The thread has made me realize that there is a point at which I could see myself going the ms_irreverent route for an extra five pounds, but forget about pulling the hairs out by the roots, and forget about the down payment on a pair of really good hearing aids . . . or the whole cost if I had to keep coming back.

Someone on another board posted this question 2 years ago. I was pregnant with Julie, and that is what got me to try the Veet. (You cant wax pregnant.)

Anyway, I cant pull it up becuase it has been too long, after a certain number they get delelted.

But I will never ever forget one guys reply, "Trimming the bush makes the tree look taller."

I was drinking soda, and it went all over the laptop!!!

LOL Mrs I!! I guess we all know he trims.

Anyway, I did the Brazilian and full leg wax today. I have to say, it is very very nice to have no hair, but it was a little painful. I would do it again for sure. But if anyone is more sensitive to pain than I am, or doesnt tolerate pain very well, I would take something before doing the brazilian wax. Leg waxing doesnt hurt in the least. But the other areas are a bit more sesnitive.

Like I said, I will continue to do it. And I would recommend it to others.

We could suggest that a Brazilian Wax be considered a feat of strength for Festivus!

OCM,

Thanks for being a good sport. I'm outta this thread.

Off for the weekend camping with my older boy's scout troop.

Feel free to call me Jack.

No point in a bikini wax at all if you aren't going to go Brazilian.

Go Brazilian or Go Home!

As far as my legs, I don't grow hair very fast and I don't have much of it so I can get away with shaving once a week. Sorry I don't have much to offer in the way of advice.

onecoolmama

I dont grow hair very quickly either. But, I figure if I am in there for the brazilian I'll just get my legs done too. I have to say they are much smoother then just shaving.
