Do we have any board members living in the Texas/LA gulf coast area?
This storm looks to be very, very severe. I went through Hugo in 1989 and I thought I was going to die during that very long night.

Fill your gas tanks up this week, have a feeling 3.00 a gallon will soon sound like a bargain.

Thoughts and prayers to any one who has family and to all of those in that area. This isnt going to be pretty.

I've got a cousin who lost her house in Pass Christian, Mississippi. Vondah has relatives in the Moss Point and Pascagoula, Missisippi area who had some house damage and lost cars.

My cousin in Houston took in her in-laws, who are from the New Orleans area.

These folks all managed to get out of the way, and so are alive and well. I really worry about people with no cars and people with mobility problems. These are some ugly storms, and they don't know the difference between the strong and the vulnerable.

Hopefully, people are taking seriously the evacuation orders -- that those who can get out will, and that those who cannot -- well, I'd like knowing that every school bus, every paratransit, every regional transit bus -- all of those resources are put to good use getting those who don't have transportation or need assistance -- out of there!

One of the girls I was just in Disney with last week lives jsut north of Galevston. She has been on the road since 8pm last night and she hasnt even gotten out of Houston!!!

She has 5 boys in her car with her, 3, 5, 14, 17, and 18!!

She isnt sure she can get off the road before the storm hits. There is talk about opening south bound I45 to north bound traffic. I really hope Houston can get this done. [-o<

Lots of people are driving whole night from Houston. Apparently the traffic is crawling along. My friends who left in the morning Sep 21 took around 7 hours to reach Austin (normally 3).

How are you holding up? Is the school safe enough away that you will be ok?

i think only the people on the coast are worried. But maybe Katrina did add some sense of urgency and fear to the whole thing.
