Hello All,

Well, since most of you felt I should steer clear of the Power Factor type training I will. That leads me to have another question.

How do I go about starting in Powerlifting? I do not want to sound stupid, but I have been unable to find a beginners workout for Powerlifting. Any help you can provide would be greatly appretiated.

How many days per week do you have to train?

where exactly are you located at? I just interviewed an alaskan gym owner - shoshana treichel - shoshana's gym - I believe it is outside anchorage - how about video - Kirk Karwoski has an excellent video called "cadet to captain" - how about the various Ed Coan videos?

I live in Craig, Alaska which is located in the South East. It is on an island(Prince of Wales) and I do not have access to a full gym. There is only a bare bones gym. They have a flat bench, a good amount of DB, some plates, and a Universal machine. They do not have a squat rack.
The gym is open 5 days a week so I have to get all of my workouts in that time frame. The weather outside usually does not cooperate with out side PT.

My goals are to get as strong as I can while maintaining a good cardio routine. As a police officer I feel that I need to increase my strength to be the best, and safest, cop I can. Is Powerlifting even what is best for me? Or should I start with a more traditional routine?

Marty- WHere could I find the videos you mentioned?

Thanks again for all of your help.

They do not have a squat rack.

Ouch :(

Hard to do any sort of powerlifting routine if you can't squat. Dumbell squats are a decent exercise but they don't compare to BB squats.

Besides front squats you can also do:

Deadlifts (sumo, conventional and stiff legged)

Hack squats

Zercher Squats

Hip Belt squats

squat cleans and clean & jerks

squat snatches

lunges

overhead squats - bar held in overhead position and squat then just squat down

DB squats........

That ought to get you started anyway

Cheers,

JP
