Hey folks,

After reading the excellent article by Keith Wassung about record keeping and goal setting, here are some goals I've formulated some goals for myself. My overarching goal is to gain significant strength without going over 160 pounds. I currently weight about 145. I'm 5'8".

I've just returned to weight training after several years out of the gym
To give you an idea of where I'm at, this past week I flat benched 145x8, 150x6, 155x2; I did squats for the first time in years, taking it very easy and just did two sets of 8 at 95lbs (still was sore); I did pullups on Friday of the following reps: 12, 10, 7, 5, 4.

I am doing more exercises than just benching, pullups, and squats, but these are going to be my benchmark exercises to guage progress.

Do my goals sound reasonable? Any comments?

Thanks.

Sounds great- are you training for something? An event of some type?

You are on the right path. Keep you dedication ans enthusiasiam!

I have kept records since the late 1960s. I did it on my own and kept it up after reading artciles on record keeping by Tommy Kono (Olympic great). It is fun to look back over 36 years and see the changes in my weight and strength levels and how I overcame sticking points, injuries, etc.

Often, I look back to see what exercises helped me imporve a lift or weak body part. The other day, even with a bad back from many injuries- not weight related (car accidents and falls) I reverse deadlifted 515 at 6'.3" and 235 lbs at almost 53 years of age. I have never used any type of steriod, etc. If somebody my age can make imporvements you can do so much more easily.

As I said best wishes and continued success!

Randy

PS- When I sarted out I in my mid teens I was at 5'.10" and 132 lbs. Work hard but smart and watch the diet you will gain.
