How was your trip to Chicago ? Did you have fun ? Any adventures you care to share?

Thank you!
I had a marvelous time, and I didn't want to come home. (Don't think my employer would have been real happy about it if I hadn't, though. ;))
It was Taste of Chicago week, so I spent some time there one afternoon and had enough food samples to choke a horse--steak tacos, some sort of Middle Eastern concoction that may have been goat meat (it was called mutton, but the description said goat. Either way it was delicious!), pizza, jerk chicken, and I don't even remember what all else. Spent another entire afternoon at the Art Institute (and still didn't see everything). Took a nice 30-minute sightseeing ride on the lake. I went to the famous Billy Goat Tavern and had a cheeseborger (no fries, no Pepsi. But I also passed on the chips and Coke). I had the chance to meet nearly all of Adam's friends. Nice kids! Oh, and Friday night we went to one of his regular hangouts, a dance club upstairs in some bar--and I got hit on by a (drunk) frat guy. I'm not kidding. I think he made my century.
I also managed to miss the bottom step on the way out of Adam's apartment Friday night and twisted the hell out of my right foot--it came down sideways and then I landed full on top of it. You should have seen it a day later. But thanks to arnica, it is almost completely back to normal already. I will probably have to forgo my lake walk for another week, but I should be able to lift tomorrow morning. (Thank goodness. I need it. After a week off I feel like a terrible slug.)
John, I have some meet pictures for you; please email me your snail mail address. :)

Welcome back, Ms_I! I'm glad you had a wonderful time, even if it ended with an OUCH!
I think it's only fair that someone posts a pic or two from the meet . . . I, for one, am dying to associate faces with names!

I'm not looking for pretty -- I'm just looking for reality. To the other members of the community . . . don't be put off by John's statement, above. Go look!
Somehow, when I think Z-slayer, I "see" your avatar. In actuality, you compare favorably  .

The pics I took are all available online; I need to figure out how to link to them (couldn't get into the site earlier). I'll edit this when I do.
Photo album is here. (http://www.mysticcolorlab.com/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=24830145/t_=27888499) John, if you can tell from these pics how much weight is on the bar in any of 'em, holler and I'll edit the captions. I'm also not completely sure if I've got the attempts right; I'll fix them if you give me better info.

**!!BUMP!!**
The time has come already to wish John (Zebulondragonslayer) a happy birthday.
So . . . will you be celebrating with 100 body weight squats again?
Many happy returns!!

Thanks CG ! You remembered eh ?
Yes, I am seriously contemplating 100 reps with 235 lbs on the bar now - did 245 lbs last year - 2 sets of 15 with 245 lbs and then 7 sets of 10 with the 245 lbs..... Fortunately I only weigh 232 lbs this year so I will try it with 235 lbs....... and see if I can do more reps to cut the number of sets down..... we'll see how it goes. I may go ahead and do them this weekend....
Thanks again, John

I remembered this thread from last year, and more recently the way you celebrate your birthday -- I think you mentioned it in a recent discussion. So, it was just a matter of searching for the words happy birthday . . .
Let us know how your celebration goes . . .

Thanks Friends. It's the big 46 this year. Ugh, and I've had to get reading glasses already.
Bobcat, I knew you'd appreciate the squats, being of like mind. Ha ! They're evil.
Anyhow, I decided to do my 100 rep birthday challenge on Friday, 4 days before. I couldn't wait and my legs were fresh. It was rough. I didn't do as well as last year since I ended up sandbagging some on the reps so's I could get them all in. BUt that meant more sets....
Here's what I did:
warmup: ab wheel 1x25
Squat 5x135, 3x185
Then, at a bodyweight of 232 lbs:
13x235 lbs
13x235
11x235
4x10x235
7x235
2x8x235
For a total of 100 reps in 1 hr 10 minutes. Took an avg of 5 minutes rest between sets I guess.
Whew hoo ! Boy that was brutal.
My legs (especially quads) were red when finished and hard as a rock. Stiff this morning so I am headed for the hot tub and then some pushmowing today to loosen them up......
HAve a great 4th everybody ! I think I may go see Journey at the local pavilion and the fireworks afterward and hopefully more fireworks with my new girlfriend of 3 1/2 wks.... Ha !

Woo hoo! Got that super accomplishment out of the way!! You can enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend!
Every time you feel the soreness, you can exult in knowing that you're fit -- fit enough to accomplish a feat that few would attempt.

have you clicked up to the next age division? That's how master powerlifters measure birthdays...a birthday that pushes you to the next upward bracket (45-49) are the on;y B-days worth noting
