Hey Marty, do you think you could ever be a contestant on Hell's Kitchen, putting up with Gordon? Think you could outcook that "executive chef" they have on the show?

Actually chef Gordon and I would get along famously - I will say that most exeptionally talented folks have a low tolerance for mediocrity...he is demanding because his mentors were demanding of him - I saw a great interview with him on Larry King and he explained the French Hell he went through as a destitiute scottsman trying to learn French cooking at the feet of the masters....I'm a big fan of his and the show

BUTTON IT! YOU'RE WORTHLESS!

But I know what you mean, Marty. That's why Larry Bird stopped coaching basketball. He worked so hard and demanded perfection as a player, and couldn't get the same from those he coached. I can relate in my own life as well.
Well, be that as it may, I'm pretty sure I'd give Ramsay one upside the head with a frying pan after about 5 minutes. I'd be sure to make it a perfect swing.

Indeed. He would demand nothing less than perfection!

If I remember, I'll remind you. Bobcat, remind me to purge after I binge.
It's on tonight at 9PM Eastern time.

Bobcat, remind me to purge after I binge.
Consider yourself reminded. On the other hand, I don't recommend it unless you've eaten something that's loaded with some pathogen or other.
I was going to say something else, but it escaped me. Must be because it's time for my lunch!

Thanks! If I'm lucky I'll manage to remember that. ;)
(I have a meeting at 7:30, but I should be home before 9.)

Last night's "firing" was right-on. You can't brag about being an "executive chef" without the actions to back it up.
That skinny tattooed cook guy played it pretty smart by putting Mr. Executive Chef on the block. I think he's the odds-on favorite at this point -- either him or that Italian guy on the blue team. I don't see any of the others having a chance. Of course, remember that I'm the guy who called every fight wrong in "The Ultimate Fighter," so don't take my advice to Vegas if you know what's good for you. :)

Yes, definitely a good strategy to call out the exec chef. I'm pulling for the mother of 6 he was up against. She's doing well for someone with no experience.
I'm rooting for the big fat sweaty guy. Us big fat sweaty guys gotta stick together.
Uh, by "stick together," I mean "show solidarity." Big fat sweaty guys don't actually stick together. Although we do stick to furniture.

I don't watch the program . . . but I do enjoy the discussion about it.

Did you see Marty's comment on it during the live chat? Hilarious!
Keith W: Coach G,
Two questions
Any thoughts on the snatch grip deadlift
and....
why do they have a bunch of lifting equipment on the set of Hell's Kitchen-out in the courtyard-where all of the would be chef's go to drink and smoke after a day in the kitchen? I really want to *bleeping* know
thanks

so how is that different than a powerlifters home gym?
Marty said he used to train with a guy who would eat meatloaf sandwiches between sets. That guy is my hero!
Curses! The big fat sweaty guy got the ax. For a minute there, it looked like I was going to get my desired frying-pan-upside-Ramsay's-head scenario, but twas not to be. I reckon it'll come down to the Italian guy and the skinny tattooed guy; I give the edge to the paisan at this point.

Oh, man, I forgot to watch this again. Someone really needs to hit me over the head or something.
Can you tell that the TV is at the bottom of my priority list?

Elsie, the mom of 6, keeps finding ways to get the job done...she's my dark horse. I think tattoo will ultimately win. The blonde chick is on a short leash, she'll be gone next week.
Well, in the teaser they said "you'll never believe who gets punted next week" (or words to that effect). So, since the blond girl is the obvious next candidate, I guess that means it's one of the two guys. Given that choice, I'd guess that the skinny tattoed guy is next; only because Ramsey had the Italian guy help him with service the other day.

So much for my dark horse. I guess it's off to the glue factory.
I can't believe the blonde lasted this long. I think she's, um, "dreadful."

When Chef Ramsey had the two girls step forward for nomination dismissal and he asked Elsie if she felt that the rest of her team gave her addequate support ( and he said it was important in his decision making) Elsie took the high ground and blamed none of her troubles on the rest of the crew.....I just wonder if Ramsey's decision would have been different if she had said something different. I think it was clear that the rest of the crew was ignoring her and doing what they could to trip her up.
any opinions?

I thought the exact same thing. Ramsey emphasized "we're a team" through the entire episode, yet Elsie didn't muster enough nerve to call out the "team."
As my wife pointed out, Elsie probably just wanted to go home. Regardless, she deserved to remain in the game.

Ok, 3 people left, and I will have to root for the person I find least offensive since all my favorites ( Jimmy, Elise, and the first girl to go) are gone. I like Michael, the tatto guy the least. I am sure he hid Jessica's filets and I took offense when he called Jimmy a "fatty" name ( not his place at all, if Chef R does it, that is one thing)
I think Jessica is a whack-job, but I think she survives tonight.
I think Ralph goes home tonight. I think Ralph is probably a decent guy, and some of his negatives are more of a perception, than reality. I think he has some good leadership qualities-hates to lose ( not a bad trait) and I am actually rooting for him.
the way it will be played out is that Michael, will knife Ralph in the back tonight, getting him kicked off and Jessica will be shown to do something very noble, which will endear her to the tv audience and then it will be a showdown between Michael, the bad-guy Goliath and the under-dog Jessica
OK, I'm throwing the BS flag. Last week they said "you'll never believe who's leaving next week." How could I not believe that they punted the blond chick?! She was the obvious choice. It's like being surprised when one of the red-shirt guys dies on Star Trek. So, to build suspense, those bastards lied to me. Curse them and crush them!
Anyway, I still say the paisan is gonna take it.

Yeah, some teaser! I'm for tattoo guy in the finale. I like his personality a little better than your paisan. Just like The Apprentice, they bring back the rejects next week! Whichever team Elsie is on might take it all.
But no doubt, Jessica was aweful and has been for a while. She should not have survived this long.

Do not listen to any more of my predictions about the outcome of Hell's Kitchen. I thought since the promo said that we would be "shocked" at the outcome, that one of the guys would go. I guess the shock ( if you want to call it that) was the introduction of Jessica's girlfriend ( not that there is anything wrong with that!) at the end.

I'm not going by personality. I just think that Ramsey will go with experience. The fact that he had Ralph working with him on final plating is a pretty big indicator, IMHO. But who knows? I mean, if tattoo guy was some kind of genius or something, that'd be a different matter. But it seems like they're about even in terms of skill.
But I like that tattoo guy less and less as the show goes on. He's really coming off as yet another scheming, conniving "reality show" weasel.

Hey Keith, great question in the chat about the deadlift showdown! I think Michael would win. He looks like one of those wiry types. Ralph would probably keel over after putting the plates on the bar.

two hour finale on monday - who'll win? I got to go with psycho michael (not that there's anything wrong with it) - I would love to see the rerun where he's in the courtyard late at night talking out loud to himself....I think the other guy is a good second dog but he blew it early on when he inflicted his dishes on his squad and they got spanked - I suspect he's not imaginative enough...we'll see...chef gordon is the vince lombardi of chefs - the press once asked all-pro defensive end willie davis if Vince was racist - "no way - he treats us all identical - like dogs!"
True, but on the other hand, crazy tattoo boy picked tuna as his entree, and it came in last in sales. That shows that, as we say in the South, thet boy ain't got a lick o' sense.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the rejects return, and to see Michael and Ralph act like Gordo, Jr.
I've been waiting for Dewberry to come back!
