Okay, I started doing the morning walks for 30 minutes for cardio. I've got the nutrition down too. I've not had the room, until recently, for weights but I now have that and so I'm trying to implement that now. I've been doing a kettlebell routine that lasts 40 minutes, 4 days per week, since August 2004(swings, snatches, clean and presses, mainly). I'm trying to figure out how to implement the weights(progressive resistance). Does the kettlebell stuff act as progressive resistance? I read that you use them as burst cardio so do I keep doing them and add other weights? I think I'm basically looking for a 3 day, whole body workout with the weights and trying to figure out where the kettlebell stuff fits in. Help?

p.s. My main interest is overall fitness(4 boys who like to play everything) and cutting fat(I weighed 450lbs 3 years ago and am down to 235lbs and plateauing).

Hi jhouse, welcome to the Forum! Outstanding job cutting the weight more than 200 lbs!

You can definitely use the kb for progressive resistance. What kind of books/videos/training do you use with kb's now?

Head over to Dragondoor.com (http://www.dragondoor.com?kbid=2280) and head to the KB Articles section. There's a couple of articles by Mike Mahler about using KBs for size and strength.

how about making barbell and dumbell training your main progressive resistance mode and using K-bells as a secondary mode for now? I think that the jolt you need could come from a straight ahead weight training program, say 3-4 times a week for six weeks....By adding muscle the body needs everymore calories, 35-40 extra calories are needed to feed a pound of muscle and 10-pounds will need 400-calories per day to exist - how low is your caloric ceiling?

I do not exceed 2000 calories per day. Most days, especially during the week, I am between 1400 and 1600 calories in 3 meals with 2 snacks. A snack would be something like an apple. What might be a decent starting routine for that barbell dumbbell stuff?

p.s. For paperboy, I only have "The Russian Kettlebell Challenge" book and video. I think that's what it is called.

jhouse, where are you located? If you're in the DC area there are KB seminars coming up.

Check the KB Seminars announcement at the top of the Beginner Forum and the Exercise Forum. I will update it shortly with new dates. There is a "ladies only" kb seminar coming up!

I am actually in Michigan, so it would be a hike.
